Background
Mountain Spirit (MS) is hiring a Project manager and field assistant to manage USAID Biodiversity (Jal Jangal) funded project. The incumbent is also expected to lead and oversee program development, implementation, and fund-raising functions of MS. The successful candidate should be able to work independently (with minimum supervision), maintain a close relationship with the MS governing board, work closely with USAID Biodiversity appointed consultant on technical and project related matters, oversee the day-to-day management of project implemented, supervise project staffs and represent MS in various forums.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the implementation of the project activities in alignment with the project goals and timelines.
- Develop detailed work plans, budgets, and project schedules.
- Ensure the project meets its objectives, deliverables, and timelines.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor progress and provide technical guidance.
- Facilitate the active participation of local communities in conservation efforts.
- Conduct awareness campaigns and training sessions for community members.
- Promote community-based conservation practices and initiatives.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with local government bodies.
- Coordinate with local authorities to integrate conservation efforts into local development plans.
- Advocate for policies and regulations that support snow leopard conservation.
- Prepare and submit regular progress reports, including financial and narrative reports, to project stakeholders.
- Document best practices, lessons learned, and success stories from the project.
- Supervise and mentor project staff and volunteers.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Wildlife Conservation, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in project management, preferably in wildlife conservation, human wildlife conflict mitigation or community development projects.
- Proven track record of working with local communities and government bodies.
- Experience in managing budgets and preparing financial reports.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in project planning and management tools.
- Ability to work in remote and challenging environments.
Position: Field Assistant
Number: 2
Duty station: Mugum Karnarong RM, Mugu District
Duration: 5 months
Expected starting date: As soon as possible
Contract Type: part-time
Responsibilities:
- Assist in field to carry out project activities funded by USAID Biodiversity Jal Jangal.
- Support the organization and facilitation of inception workshops and training sessions.
- Conduct surveys with project staff and assessments in the field.
- Support in setting up and maintaining field equipment.
- Collaborate with local communities and stakeholders.
- Assist in the distribution and installation of predator deterrent tools (Fox lights) and predator-proof corrals.
- Assist in organizing and managing livestock health camps in collaboration with veterinary professionals.
- Provide support to herders in the documentation process for livestock insurance claims.
- Document field observations and report findings to the project manager/project lead.
- Ensure proper record-keeping and reporting of all field activities.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Collaborate with local stakeholders, herders, and government officials to ensure effective project implementation.
Qualifications:
- +2/higher secondary level education.
- Experience in field data collection and community engagement.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in remote and challenging environments.
Remuneration:
As per the budget allocated in the project. Please state your expected monthly salary in the job application.
