Mountain Spirit

Mountain Spirit (MS) is a non-profit organization registered in 1996 under the laws of Nepal. MS is formed by a group of like-minded people from different mountain communities and their friends. MS aims to improve livelihoods, protect environment and conserve mountain culture through capacity building, empowerment, awareness, and sustainable development initiatives with participation of local communities.

Why to support in mountains?

The mountain regions in Nepal are rich in bio-diversity and cultural heritages. But, these regions are challenging places to live and work due to harsh climate, unproductive soil, and inaccessibility. Mountain communities are also marginalized with lesser access at the decision-making positions in the government and political parties. Most of the mountain regions therefore suffer out migration in search of economic opportunities, employment, education, and health facilities elsewhere. Therefore, Mountain Spirit has dedicated the first decade of its work in the areas of health, education, eco-tourism, gender sensitization, social mobilization, participatory planning, conflict resolution, social empowerment and institutional capacity strengthening in different mountains regions of Nepal.
